The Project Engineer - Castings job itself where you will be responsible for the delivery of the engineering aspects of NPI projects by understanding customer requirements and developing and managing engineering/manufacturing closure plans for each project.  Ensuring prototype, first off and serial production of parts is moved through the production facility with minimal impact to day-to-day production targets, in line with the project plan and customer order dates. Work with sub-contractors to deliver specific aspects of an NPI project (e.g. tooling), either via electronic communication or onsite visits. 

It's in Worcester, 39 hours per week:  08:00 – 17:00 Mon – Thurs & 08:00 – 13:00 Friday.  Duties are more specifically:

  • Contribute to and lead defined aspects of the project to achieve optimal balance between requirements, schedule and cost
  • Manage technical risks and requirements verification throughout project execution to successfully demonstrate compliance
  • Create technical documentation in accordance with company procedures and customer expectation
  • Maintain relevant project documentation (e.g. project task list risk register)
  • Manage customers and external suppliers to ensure compliance with agreed processes and achievement of project objectives
  • Prepare technical presentations with internal and external customers
  • Lead lessons learned sessions providing best practice to team members
  • Estimate resource requirements and plan projects accordingly
  • Ensure timely and consistent communication on progress, impacts and changes associated with the technical directions and status of the projects
  • Lead failure investigations associated with NPI

You will have

  • HNC/HND in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering or equivalent
  • Delivered complex and simple NPI projects in aerospace companies, working within a gated process (e.g. APQP)
  • Successfully worked on multiple projects concurrently
  • Worked within and occasionally led risk analysis (FMEA etc.) teams
  • Created manufacturing instructions from 2D drawings or 3D CAD (model based definition)
  • Worked in an investment casting environment
  • Presented technical requirements and project plans throughout organisation at all levels
  • Planned projects using GANTT charts using cost, schedule and quality metrics
  • Has worked closely with customers and suppliers making onsite visits
  • Worked within, and occasionally led problem solving (8D/A4/Ishikawa etc.) teams
  • Knowledge of investment casting techniques/processes
  • Understands Engineering Change (ECO/ECN) processes
  • Familiar with using a gated process to deliver NPI e.g. APQP
  • Ability to work with sub contract operations e.g. tooling manufacture or post casting treatments
  • Understands project planning techniques
  • Understand problem solving (8D/A3/RCCA) techniques
  • Used configuration management processes to ensure all engineering documentation is correct at point of use
  • Negotiate through peer levels of the business to win-win outcomes
  • Contribute to risk-based activities e.g. FMEA/FMECA
  • Quick thinker who can work within a rapidly changing environment
  • Can read and create engineering/manufacturing documentation
  • Able to lead conference calls with customers and suppliers, sometime concurrently
  • Use MS Office suite of tools
  • Use project planning tools e.g. MS Project or MS Excel
  • Use APQP/PPAP tools to deliver NPI/NPD on time
